What is an emotional board? How do you create an emotional vision board? Questions that need answers!

As you may already know, vision boards are collections of images, drawings, and other visuals arranged together to represent your goals and ambitions in a variety of areas of your life. An emotional board is a similar  concept to a vision board but it’s elevated to honor the emotions and the emotional body which is the secret key to truly manifesting what you deeply desire.

Emotional boarding is a signature tool that I created for myself and for my coaching clients. This is a method to help you create the feelings that you wish to experience in whatever experience you are calling in. Often we’ll place things on our vision board – like a great new job – assuming that will make us happy but it doesn’t always because we forget to include the emotions of how we want to feel in this space. To me, an emotional board is the main ingredient behind the vision board and the way that we manifest with an emotional board will include both visualization and feeling! Plus, what you physically place onto the board will include feeling, images, or words.

Just like a vision board, an emotional board is about manifesting what you wish to bring to life.

How Does an Emotional Board Work?

Like a vision board, you will use images that represent what you want, but you will also use spelled out words on pieces of paper that describe how you want to feel when you achieve the goals you (PSST: Don’t worry, I have a list of feeling words below). For example: If you wish to be married you would place an image of a couple on their wedding day and then anywhere near that image or even on top, you would place the words: “happy,” “joyful,” “excited,” etc.

Next, you’ve got to “work” your board. Like a vision board, you’re going to want to do the following:

  • Place it somewhere you can see it everyday
  • Spend 10 minutes daily looking over the board and thinking about the life you want
  • Conjure up the emotions you want to feel while having what you want

Example: Let’s say you place a photo up of a couple getting married and in full wedding gear. Instead of just looking at this photo and imagining yourself getting married, you will actually make yourself feel the joy and love that you want to experience in this partnership. The key here is to literally “go crazy” pretending that you are experiencing this emotion in real time and actually start moving into it with all your heart. You can even scream out loud how you want to feel in this partnership: i.e. “On my wedding day and in my marriage I want to feel loved, blissful, happy and confident that I made the right choice in choosing my partner!”

Overarching Main Character Emotional Statement:

This is the theme of your board – how you want to feel in every moment of what you achieve in any area of your life. Include this and place it at the very top of your board. You can write at the top of it as a simple manifestation that you can also chant for a few minutes a day as well. Some good ones could be:

“I call unto me my best 360 lifestyle.”

“I am filled with joy, love and peace everyday and in every way.”

“I have manifested my best life and I’m loving it here!”

This is important because even if you don’t have time to sit in the many emotions that you wish to feel every time you look at your board, you can just chant your emotional statement aloud for a few minutes and conjure up the feeling of satisfaction and completeness in less than 10 minutes a day.

How should an Emotional Board Actually Be Crafted?

Set Your Intentions: Before you start to do this, sit and think about your intention for various aspects of your life. Be sure to include a loose timeframe.

Add Images of What You Want To Achieve: Similar to a vision board, you will use images to represent the things you want to manifest into your life.

Craft Your Emotional Experiencing Labels: Think of the emotions you want to experience and then literally write the words on strips of paper. You can have fun with this where certain colors of paper fall into certain categories or you use stencils, or different writing tools to depict what you’re working to feel emotionally.

Grid Your Board: Section board into categories like career, relationships, health, travel, etc. or for a more creative flow, arrange images more randomly. Start with a central image. In this case, I would say a central “word” of your Emotional Overarching Statement that represents a key aspect of your vision.

Prioritization: Place your most important, inspiring images/words in the center or at eye-level to draw focus. Arrange secondary images around the perimeter or in the corners. Use larger images/fonts for top goals and smaller ones for supporting visuals.

Color Scheme: You can be cute and demure and have a clean color theme or palette or go wild and do what you want. As long as the board catches your eye on a daily basis.

Textures & Layers: Play with fabrics, paper, stamps, stencils. Just make sure it’s visually appealing to you and keeps your eyes reading easily and effectively. Go wild with this step!

Supplies you’ll need to to craft an Emotional Board:

  • Various writing instruments in bold colors – pen, marker, pencil etc
  • Paint or spray paint (optional)
  • Newspaper and magazine clippings with images but a lot with letters
  • Stencils (optional)
  • Various pieces of paper to write on- get creative think color, texture etc
  • A journal or notepad
  • Glue or any adhesive you will use with your board
  • Magazine, newspapers, old photos, printed out images from online
  • A large cork board, cardboard, or canvas

Where to Place Your Emotional Vision Board

A key part of your emotional vision board’s value is looking to it for continued inspiration. When it comes to placement, choose a location where you can access it daily. You can try placing your board in one of the following locations:

  • Fridge
  • Inside the door of your closet
  • An altar
  • Bathroom mirror
  • Nightstand
  • Home office
  • Above your headboard or dresser
  • In your dressing closet
  • Behind your front door or bathroom door

What is Actually on the Emotional Vision Board?

Areas of Your Life You Wish To Manifest In: Below are some wide-ranging ideas to get your creative juices flowing and to ensure you don’t overlook important aspects of your life. Pro Tip: Leave space to update and add as you please throughout the year.

  • Your dream income source- this can be a job or your own business
  • Financial goals – long and short term
  • Skills you want to cultivate
  • Relationships you’d like to cultivate
  • Pictures of places you’d like to travel
  • Health goals
  • Mental or spiritual growth you’d like to achieve
  • Personal style and fashion
  • Home and living environment
  • Adventure and experiences you want to have
  • Mindfulness and emotional goals

Your Emotional Feeling Words: You should write down a list of words that express the emotions you want to feel. Write these on various pieces of paper and feel free to make doubles. To help you conjure up emotions and put them into words, take a moment to do this journal prompt exercise:

  • What feeling do I want to experience with my person during our intimate physical moments? (ex: strong, passionate, tender, earth shattering)
  • What feelings do I want to experience when I see my person on a daily basis? (ex:joy, relief, calm)
  • What feelings do I want to experience during a disagreement with my person? (ex: anxiety, anger, end of the world, growth)
  • What feelings do I want to experience with my person’s family? (ex: comfort, humor, love, acceptance)
  • What feelings do I want to experience with my person when either one of us is having a hard time in life? (ex: understood, validated, supported)

Place the labels above, on top of, or below the image or area of your life that corresponds to what you wish to manifest.  Example: If you want X job, then you can put up a picture of a woman working in the job and then put the emotional worded label(s) above it that says: confident, appreciated and successful. Make these words bold and big enough to see with ease and make them impactful enough that you can easily bring up the feelings within yourself.

As promised, here’s a list of “emotional feeling words” you can write on various pieces of paper or craft them from letters clipped from magazines and newspapers, or even use symbols or images to represent them.

How to Use Your Emotional Board to Manifest:

Once you’ve finished your board and placed it somewhere that you will see on a daily basis, I suggest that you do the following:

Cue up a Heart Chakra Meditation track, stare at the board for at least 10 minutes while chanting your main emotional label, then stare at each photo and call out how you want to feel while conjuring up the feeling in your physical body. You can amplify this by lighting a candle (ideally one that is pink, gold, or red) and staring into the flame of the candle once you have the vision of the image in your head and are working to bring the feeling into your emotional body.

A good day to do this in 2024 is under the New Moon in Capricorn on December 30th, on January 1, 2025, or under a New or Full Moon, in general.
