HOW ARE YOU USING YOUR GIFT TO INSPIRE THE COMMUNITY? “My gift is the gift of being able to relate to people, experience things and articulate them to people, [being] a great storyteller but most of all believing in the inspiration and uplifting of people through knowledge and experiences; that’s what I love. Whether it be DJing a party or doing my Inspirational Vitamin on the radio and exploring the world with my [Frank Ski] Kids Foundation, all of that is how I use my platform and my God-given gifts to elevate.”
THE CREATOR:
The life and career of veteran radio personality Frank Ski reads like the story of three completely different individuals on paths you wouldn’t ever expect to intersect. Then again, that’s what makes the man born Frank Rodriguez so special. First, you’ve got his DJ side: the foundation he built in the late ’80s and early ’90s with Baltimore club music truly helped to define the influential era, and can easily be seen decades later. Remember Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s chart-topping, award-winning 2020 collab, “WAP”? Yeah, that vulgar-yet-infectious sample heard on repeat throughout the song was taken directly from Frank Ski’s own explicit 1993 club hit — we’ll let you look up the title of that track on your own time!
You might think with such a strong link to secular music that Frank Ski wouldn’t have a strong relationship with God; wrong! That’s simply not the way He works, and it’s through Ski’s second act in life as a respected journalist where he was able to honor the Lord in our cultural fight for civil rights. You’ve got his iconic interview with the late Mrs. Coretta Scott King, the last one she ever did in life, hosting duties for the prestigious International Civil Rights Walk of Fame, his hard-to-bear interaction with suspected Atlanta Child Murders killer Wayne Williams, which even led to a reopening of the case, and an honor as the 2002 “Journalist of the Year” from Reverend Jesse Jackson himself on behalf of the Rainbow Push Coalition — that’s just to name a few of his journalistic accolades!
However, it all comes full-circle with his third act as a seasoned on-air radio personality. It’s here where he can spread his wide-range words of encouragement to the masses on a much wider level. Positions at V-103-Baltimore, WERQ Baltimore, KISS 104.1 and a current stint with his syndicated The Frank Ski Show with Nina Brown each made listeners feel a sense of hospitality and relatability.
We can’t wait to see what the fourth phase will be for Frank Ski!
