HOW ARE YOU USING YOUR GIFT TO INSPIRE THE COMMUNITY? “There are so many ways that I love to use my gifts to elevate my community. Number one is the music; I love to sing and I have music that is out that continues to elevate my community. From my radio platform, I love to elevate my community by inspiring them to keep going and speak. One of the things about our community that we love is that we love to be seen and heard, especially in my chat room! I love to listen, and I also love to deposit great inspiration through my Selfie Sessions as well as through my “nighttime word” every night [on The Nightly Spirit].”
THE CREATOR:
The combined beauty, grace, major success as a Dove Award-nominated Christian R&B recording artist and never-faltering Southern charm all make it easy to see why so many in the nation tune in to get a dose of The Nightly Spirit by way of the lovely Darlene McCoy. Her glowing personality simply ceases to get tiresome; whether singing on major film soundtracks or starring in feature films as well, this woman really gives true meaning to the popular term, “the real McCoy!”
Her career started off on a high note from jump back in 2005 with the release of her debut single, “Fallen in Love,” which ended up on the soundtrack for Tyler Perry’s claim-to-fame feature film, Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Standing alongside big Billboard acts at the time like India.Arie, Monica, Angie Stone, Tamia, Heather Headley, Cheryl “Pepsii” Riley and the Patti LaBelle to name a few is no small feat to frown at! However, the humility she’s displayed in the midst of all that God has provided for her throughout these years is just one of the many great qualities that makes Darlene McCoy a public figure worth following. With The Nightly Spirit for example, which happens to be under our family here at Urban ONE, her message is always delivered with a nature that makes you feel like she could be your sister, mother, chill-as-ever auntie or mentor in life that’s simply making sure you get the good word in before you tuck in for bed to get some shut-eye. That also translates heavily in part due to her real-life role as a mommy to three, grand-mommy to two and “sister-girl-in-mind-and-spirit” to thousands of listeners nationally.
After nearly two full decades of experiencing all the many facets that Darlene has offered the world, we can only hope she continues to share her spirit and keep bringing “the real” on a nightly basis.
